I’ve always hated to go over people’s houses and holidays because I was treated like an asshole and the center of attention because I might not be able to eat what they decided I should eat that night. I was always polite, always tried to find something to eat, but I simply can not consume food that I don’t like. It just won’t happen.

I’ve spent my life dealing with people’s disgust over how I eat. As a kid, it was some weird form of worry that was just passive-aggressive criticism of my parents. As an adult, it’s pity, anger and disgust. Like I’m missing out on the secrets of the universe. It’s kind of like the reaction I get when I tell people I’m agnostic.
